Wheaton Academy has a tradition of providing innovative summer youth programs from top level high school coaches for your children in a safe and fun environment.  Whether it is your first adventure into a new sport or a more advanced program, the Wheaton Academy coaches are prepared to engage in the lives of your children.  - Because who your kids spend time with matters.

You would be hard pressed to find a more technically skilled, enthusiastic, player-centric, experienced group of coaches than those WA Summer Camps puts on the field, court, or course.

Tennis - Boys and Girls - Rick Huffman Camp Director -
Coach Rick Huffman is a Muskegon, Michigan native where he was a three time conference champion and two time sectional champion as a prep player. He played D - I college tennis at the University of Northern Colorado and is a two time winner of the Northwestern Michigan Open Tennis Tournament held in Traverse City. He began his coaching career at Muskegon Community College as the head women’s coach and was named Region XII Coach of the Year in ’79 and ’80 after his teams won conference and sectional titles and advanced to the National Junior College
Championships. Mr. Huffman retired form his science teaching position at Prospect High School where he served as boy’s varsity tennis coach for twenty five years and girl’s assistant coach for eight years. He is currently in his third season as men’s assistant tennis coach for Wheaton College. 

Golf - Boys and Girls - Scott Broman Camp Directors
- Scott is a PGA member, Wheaton Academy Head Boys Golf Coach since 2012, taken a player to the State Finals every year and his team to a 5th place finish at State. 

Soccer - Girls - Maria Selvaggio Camp Director - Girls soccer will be coached by Head Varsity Girls Soccer Coach, Maria Selvaggio. Maria has an exceptional mind for the game, and a passion to run a program that trains and empowers young women.  She has had remarkable success as a player and coach.  A talented player at Wheaton Academy, and member of 2004 State Championship team, Selvaggio continued playing soccer at Wheaton College where she was a valuable member of their national championship team. Maria is married to Joe Selvaggio, who is an assistant coach on the boys soccer team, they live in West Chicago with their two daughters, Bella and Lina.

Soccer - Boys - Cody Snouffer Camp Director - Soccer will be coached by Head Varsity Boys Soccer Coach, Cody Snouffer, and his staff.  Originally from Delaware, Ohio just north of Columbus, graduating from Delaware Christian School and Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Played soccer since age four, and enjoyed four years of varsity soccer at MVNU, including two trips to NCCAA National Tournament, and one NAIA Final Four appearance. OHSA All State, ESPN Academic All American, NCCAA All American, MVNU Male Athlete of the Year, and MVNU Service Above Self recipient. 
I love sports because they give us a platform to build relationships that share the good news of Christ. In addition to soccer, I enjoy snowboarding, crossfit, coffee, reading, boomerangs, being a dad+husband, cartoons, and kite flying. Lives in West Chicago with wife Jennifer, daughter Sofia Collette, and dog Mozzie.

Volleyball - Boys and Girls - D.A. Nichols Camp Director -  Coach D.A. Nichols will be entering his 13th season as the head coach and the program director for the Warriors.  Coach Nichols oversees both the girls’ and boys’ volleyball programs at Wheaton Academy.  He also brings 20+ years of volleyball coaching experience at all levels which include four years at a Division III school as the head coach of the men’s and women’s programs.  Working alongside of Coach Nichols will be the Wheaton Academy Varsity team.  Coaches are energetic, friendly, knowledgeable, and focused on helping each player reach their full potential.

Lacrosse - Boys and Girls - Geof Weisenborn and Beth Weisenborn Camp Directors - Geof Weisenborn is the Director of Athletic Performance and the Head Lacrosse Coach at Wheaton Academy. Geof was a scholarship athlete and 4 year letterman under the legendary Don Zimmerman at UMBC. He has coached in high school and college for the past 18 years. Prior to Wheaton Academy he was the head coach at Messiah College for 8 years. Geof also served as a lacrosse coach for the FCA Lacrosse national camp in Gettysburg.  Geof coaches youth lacrosse locally for FCA Lacrosse and True Lacrosse, including one of the True State and National teams.

Coach Beth Weisenborn played Division I college lacrosse at UMBC. She is a US Lacrosse certified coach, PCA certified, coaches locally for FCA Lacrosse, and has worked with numerous girls lacrosse clubs running clinics.

Wrestling - Justin and Mikey Swider
Camp Directors -  Justin Swider is the Head Varsity wrestling coach at Wheaton Academy, as well as, one of the assistant athletic directors and strength and conditioning coaches. He graduated from Wheaton College in 2014 with a Business and Economics degree and played football and baseball. He was an all-conference and all-region kick returner on the football team and was a 3 time all conference and 2 time all region baseball player. 

Michael Swider graduated from Wheaton College in 2017. While at Wheaton, he was a part of the football and wrestling programs. He earned 2 all-conference selections and 2 all-region selections as a middle linebacker. As a wrestler, he was the 2015 CCIW conference champion at the 197lb weight class and finished fourth at the Midwest regionals. In 2016 Mikey repeated as conference champion, finished 3rd at Regionals and was a Division III All-American.  In 2017, battling injury, Mikey finished 2nd in Regionals.  In high school, Michael was a two time state qualifier and finished 2nd in state during his senior year. He went 81-5 in during his junior and senior years recording 50 pins. He then went on to place 7thtat the Greco-Roman national championships and 2nd at the Freestyle national championships.

Baseball - Justin Swider Camp Director - Justin Swider is the assistant varsity baseball coach at Wheaton Academy, as well as, one of the assistant athletic directors and strength and conditioning coaches. He graduated from Wheaton College in 2014 with a Business and Economics degree and was 3-time all-conference and 2-time all-region baseball player.

Football - Brad Thornton Camp Director -  Brad Thornton is in his 5th year at Wheaton Academy where he teaches English and is the Head Football Coach.  Brad grew up in Cary, Illinois and attended Cary-Grove High School where he was a 4-year starter on the varsity football team, in addition to serving as a 2-year captain of the team.  Brad was a State Champion in the 300m hurdles at the 2003 Class 2A state finals.  Brad played 4 years of college football at Wheaton College where he started on offense as a fullback and was a senior captain.  He was also received the James Parmalee “Most Respected Player” award.  After graduating college, Brad spent 6 years teaching and coaching at Evangelical Christian School in Memphis, TN.  Brad was a part of a staff and team that advanced to the state semifinals in 2009 and 2010, and he coached in the Tennessee 2012 state championship.   Brad became the head coach of the Wheaton Academy football team in 2013 and has since compiled a 27-24 record in five seasons, including consecutive playoff appearances in 2015 and 2016.

Basketball - Steve Thonn Camp Director
-  Steve Thonn is the Head Varsity Basketball Coach at Wheaton Academy, and the Offensive Coordinator for the football team.  He has over 30 years of experience in coaching at the high school,college, and professional levels.  He was a three sport athlete at Wheaton college in football, basketball, and baseball and is a member of the colleges Hall of Fame. Assistant Coaches from the Wheaton Academy basketball staff will help with the instruction of the summer program.

Basketball - Kurt Vahle Camp Director - Kurt is currently Head of Basketball Instruction and coach for FCA Basketball, as well as, serving as assistant varsity basketball coach at Wheaton Academy.  Kurt attended and played varsity basketball at Trinity International University.  Kurt is the owner and operator of Elite Basketball and has coached at Lake Forest Academy and in other youth basketball programs for the last 11 years.

Basketball (Girls) - Erin Carwell Camp Director - Coach Carwell is the Head Varsity Girls Basketball coach at Wheaton Academy.  She credits her time as a varsity college player at Wheaton College as shaping her values as a coach.  The importance of tough team defense and the value of playing together as a team shape her coaching perspective.  Fundamentals, offensively and defensively, and understanding teamwork are the hallmarks of her program.
